You guys talk funny.

I dared myself to go Japan and I won. Now the fun begins...

I've started teaching English at M.I.L., known to the locals at Margaretogauka - loosely translated to Margaret's Money Making Language Machine and Brothel.

For 23 hours a week, no more and no less, I teach English. All ages, shapes and sizes. I have Tuesdays and Sundays off, and most of my days start between 12PM and 3PM. Not bad. The teaching has been a lot fun. Hard work, but a lot of fun.

The curriculum is set, so it's hard to mess up. There's plenty of flexibility on how you cover the material, so long as the material is covered. And the students are awesome. Many were shocked to meet me on the first day of classes. But after the initial shyness wore off, my students were itchin' to practice their English on me.

When I'm not teaching, I try to go into Tokyo as much as possible. And if I don't make it there, I've been trying to visit of the stops on my subway line to check out my new city.

I'm half way through Golden Week - week long national holiday celebrating Boys Day, Children's day and some other awesome stuff. As a result, I've had a whole week off to explore and adjust. My fellow teachers are very cool, and I've gone to some cool spots with them (my entry on going to the Ramaen Museum is forthcoming).

All and all, my first month here has been good. I'll give it a solid B.

Finally having the internet has taken the edge off my culture shock, and makes all I'm going through worthwhile because I have you to share it with.

Stay tuned for entries on my 1st burger in 12 years, discovering Ikea, and Fumiyo.

This is so exciting! The kids ask about you. The other day I had them write on the topic, If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do. Several of them said they would go to Japan to see you.

Hope you are having a great time, learning new and exciting things everyday.
